Have you ever noticed that some foods are described as ‘’good’’ sources of calcium or ‘’excellent’’ sources of vitamin C? How come Kellogg’s or Kraft never labels their products as ‘’fantastic’’ or ‘’superb’’ sources of mineral X or Vitamin Y?
The food industry doesn’t pick arbitrary adjectives to describe its food products. There is a definite method to the madness.
By law, food and beverage companies can only label a product as a “good” source of a vitamin or mineral if it contains at least ten percent of your recommended daily allowance (RDA) of that substance (check the nutrition facts section on the package for confirmation). A product is an “excellent” source of a substance if it contains at least fifteen percent of your RDA.
